FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Team Red/Black:

1) Question: Would parents stay in the same hotel room as the athlete?

1) Answer: Typically, no. The athletes stay together in rooms of 4. Athletes staying in rooms with each other promotes team unity and bonding. If there is any major concern about this, please inform the coach, and we can help accommodate to stay with the parent. If this is the case, the parent/athlete would need to stay in the same hotel as the team.

1b) Question: As a parent, I’m still not comfortable with my athlete staying with 3 other athletes in a room unsupervised.

1b) Answer: As a reminder, the athletes have already roomed with one another at UCA Summer Camp, without adults in their rooms, nor with parents at the event. Nationals is an event that the parents can attend, and stay at the same hotel. There are parent chaperones at the Nationals events, too, for added security if the parent cannot attend. It is STRONGLY recommended for athletes to stay with their teammates in the rooms. But, again, if there are parents concerned with this, then the parent and athlete need to stay at the same hotel as the team so that the athlete can be up-to-speed with all team events, meetings, and possible schedule changes.

2) Question: How much will my athlete compete?

2) Answer:

For Team Red, up to 3 times, all on separate days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday - - 2/11, 2/12, 2/13 - - Prelims, Semi-Finals, Finals)

For Team Black, up to 2 times, all on separate days (Friday, Saturday - - 2/25, 2/26 - - Prelims, Finals)

3) Question: Does the team compete the same routine during Nationals weekend?

3) Answer: Yes, no changes will be made to the routine. The routine is performed on back-to-back days, and we would not make changes unless there was an injury or major deduction from preliminaries.

4) Question: How much school would they miss?

4) Answer:

For Team Red: They need to take off Friday (2/11) and Monday (2/14). Depending on flights on Thursday (2/10) they should leave school early, or miss that day entirely.

For Team Black: No school would be missed. USA Nationals is during the President’s Week, and Westmont has that week off (2/21 - 2/25).

5) Question: For family attending USA nationals, does that include parents and siblings?

5) Answer: Yes, both friends and family (including parents, siblings, grandparents, any relative) can attend the Nationals events. Just list how many people are joining if they want to purchase the Hopper Passes with our team, or the hotel rooms with our team.

6) Question: For the hotel room, could we get 2 queen beds please?

6) Answer: Yes, all rooms will default to 2 queen beds. If you’d like 1 King bed for your family/friends room, please inform Elisha Davis

Team Black Only:

1) Question: What # of days should my athlete purchase? When could they go to Disneyland?

1) Answer: Most athletes going to USA Nationals (Anaheim, CA) purchase a 1-Day or 2-Day Hopper pass. The athletes can go on the final day (Sunday, 2/27). Competing is our first priority of going to Nationals. Going to the park depends greatly on how far the team gets through PreLims and Finals. Depending on the time of the competition/awards for our team, the athletes can go to the park afterwards, each day of the competition. If the team does not advance to Finals (on Saturday), then that would be considered a “Free” day to go to the park.

Team Red Only:

1) Question: What is the ESPN Venue?

1) Answer: This is where the competition will be held for all teams. Preliminaries are on Friday, February 11th, Semi-Finals are on Saturday, February 12th, and Finals are on Sunday, February 13th.

Parents that don’t want the hotel package like the athletes, can pay a daily price to get into the ESPN Venue, at $40/day.

2) Question: There are 3 days of DisneyWorld included - When can the athletes go to the park?

2) Answer: Competing is our first priority of going to Nationals. Going to the park depends greatly on how far the team gets through PreLims, Semis, and Finals. Depending on the time of the competition/awards for our team, the athletes can go to the park afterwards, each day of the competition. If the team does not advance to Semis or Finals, those would be considered “Free” days to go to the park.
